மார்ச் 8 – இன்று உலக மகளிர் தினம் (International Women’s Day).ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் உலக மகளிர் தினம் மார்ச் மாதம் 8 -ம் தேதி கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. அது வந்த வரலாற்றை சற்று பின்னோக்கி பார்ப்போம். வீட்டுக்குள்ளேயே முடங்கி கிடந்த பெண்கள், தற்போது வானில் பறந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர் என்றால், அதற்கு வித்திட்ட பல்வேறு போராட்டங்களின் வெற்றியே இந்த மகளிர் தினமாகும். இந்த உலக மகளிர் தினம் கொண்டாடுவதற்கு காரணமான போராட்டத்திற்கான வெற்றிகள் அவ்வளவு எளிதாக கிட்டவில்லை. ஆணாதிக்க சமுதாயத்திலிருந்து பெண்களுக்கான உரிமைகளை வென்றெடுத்த நாள்தான். 1920-ம் ஆண்டு சோவியத் ரஷ்யாவில் செயிண்ட் பீட்டர்ஸ் நகரில் நடந்த பெண்களின் போராட்டத்தில் ரஷ்யாவை சேர்ந்த அலெக்ஸாண்டரா கேலன்ரா கலந்து கொண்டார். அவர்தான் உலக மகளிர் தினத்தை ஆண்டுதோறும் மார்ச் 8-ம் தேதி நடத்த வேண்டும் என்று பிரகடனம் செய்தார். அதுமுதல் உலகின் பல்வேறு நாடுகளிலும் மகளிர் தினக் கொண்டாட்டங்கள் நடைபெற ஆரம்பித்தன.சமீப காலமாகத்தான் இந்தியாவில் மகளிர் தின கொண்டாட்டங்கள் களைக்கட்டியுள்ளன.
