கேரள மாநிலத்தின் பெருமைக்குரியதாக பழப்பொருளாக பலாப்பழம் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. கேரள சட்டமன்றத்தில் நடந்த கூட்டத்தில் புதனன்று இது தொடர்பான அறிவிப்பை வேளாண்துறை அமைச்சர் வி.எஸ்.சுனில் குமார் வெளியிட்டு பேசினார். கேரளத்தின் பெருமைக்குரிய மிருகம், பறவை, மலர், மீன் போன்றவற்றைத் தொடர்ந்து அந்த வரிசையில் கேரளத்தின் பெருமைக்குரிய பழமாக பலாப்பழம் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதாக அப்போது அமைச்சர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.மாநில வேளாண்மைத்துறையின் பரிந்துரையின் பேரில் கேரளத்தின் பெருமைக்குரியதாக பலாப்பழ த்தை மாநில அரசு அறிவித்ததோடு, கேரளத்தின் பிராண்டாக பலாப்பழத்தை உலக சந்தையில் கொண்டு செல்லவும் மாநில அரசு திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது. அதோடு பலாப்பழத்தை அடிப்படையாக கொண்ட உணவுப் பொருட்கள் உற்பத்தியை அதிகரிக்கவும் அரசு திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது. இதற்காக வயநாடு அம்பலவயலில் பலா உற்பத்தி மையம் தொடங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. பலாப்பழத்தை மக்களின் விருப்பமாக மாற்ற மாநில அரசு ஆண்டுதோறும் “சக்க உத்சவம்” நடத்தவும் தீர்மானித்துள்ளது.
