மார்ச் 17, 1920 – வங்கதேசத்தின் முதல் அதிபர் ‘வங்கபந்து’ ஷேக் முஜிபுர் ரஹ்மான் (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) பிறந்த தினம் இன்று. கிழக்கு வங்கப் பகுதியின் (பின்னர் கிழக்கு பாகிஸ்தான்) டோங்கிபுரா கிராமத்தில் (1920) பிறந்தவர்.வறுமை, வேலையின்மை, மோசமான வாழ்க்கைத்தரம் இவற்றுக்கு சோஷலிஸம் தீர்வு தரும் என்று நம்பினார். தான் ஒரு வங்காளி என்பதை பெருமையாகக் கருதியவர்.பாகிஸ்தானில் உருது மட்டுமே தேசிய மொழி என்று 1949-ல் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது. இதற்கு எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்து கிழக்கு வங்கத்தில் நடந்தபோராட்டங்களுக்கு தலைமை யேற்றார். கைது செய்து சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டும் 13 நாட்கள் உண்ணாவிரதம் இருந்தார். மக்கள் ஆதரவு பெருகியதால் விடுதலை செய்யப்பட்டார்.1970-ல் நடந்த பொதுத் தேர்தல்களில் ஷேய்க் முஜிபிர் ரஹ்மானின் அவாமி லீக் கட்சி அபார வெற்றி பெற்றது. ஆனால் இவர் பிரதமராவதை ராணுவமும், மேற்கு பாகிஸ்தானின் தலைவர்களும் விரும்பவில்லை. பாக். அதிபர் யாஹியா கான் ராணுவச் சட்டத்தைக் கொண்டு வந்து, அவாமி லீக்கை தடை செய்தார். புரட்சி வெடித்தது. ஏராளமானோர் கொல்லப் பட்டனர். முக்தி பாஹினி படை உருவானது. இந்திய ராணுவத்தின் உதவியுடன் முக்தி பாஹினி படையினர் பாகிஸ்தானுடன் போரிட்டு வென்றனர். 1971-ல் வங்க தேசம் உருவானது. புதிய தேசத்தின் முதல் அதிபராகப் பொறுப்பேற்றார். பின்னர், பிரதமராகவும் இருந்தார்.

With the assistance of the Indian Army, the Mukti Bahini soldiers fought with Pakistan. In 1971, the Bengal dynasty was formed. He became the first president of the new nation. Later, he was prime minister.
